We have to make sure she doesn't lick at it or anything, so we made our very own version of a bite-not collar, which we couldn't find at the pet store on our way home today. :( So we went to Home Depot across the street from PetCo and got some foam stuff, and jury-rigged this getup. Hopefully it'll work. We'll add the Elizabethan collar if we have to...that's the lampshade cone thing.

We're going to be home with her until Tuesday so she'll get some good healing in before we have to get back to work (course she'll go with us every day for a while anyway). Tomorrow Aleena and Nyssa will go with us to the fireworks. We're fairly certain Nyssa will do better with us at the park than without us at home (our neighbor has a large show at his house) and because she has a tendency to seizures, we can't give her the sedation that we can give the other two dogs to keep them calm. Aleena will come with us so we can continue keeping an eye on her tail. If something goes wrong with her tail, they may have to take more of it off so she's going to be attached to my hip this weekend. Her pain medication makes her a little sleepy so she's a lot more emotionally needy...if you can imagine that. It works for us...she's doing well. Her teeth were also cleaned so she's got some gorgeous pearly whites. The reason we were able to do these surgeries is because Meadow Hills is a host for preceptors from WSU (4th year vet students). They come in to follow the doctors and learn everything they can while they're here for about 4 weeks, and they do procedures for...FREE! Our current preceptor, Sarah, was looking forward to this particular surgery as it's obviously unusual and a great experience for a near-doctor...not just your every-day spay...though she does get to do the ordinary stuff, too. The doctors allow employees to sign up for free preceptor surgeries first and then they may offer them to clients if there's room left.
So that's our most recent news. Blake is in Mexico and doing well as far as I can tell...he hasn't called to cry...he never does...he has a great time there.
